An independent think tank at the Riigikogu Studies of the Foresight Centre help increase Estonia’s competitiveness
The Foresight Centre gave the Economic Affairs Committee of the Riigikogu (Parliament of Estonia) an overview of its last year’s activities. In the opinion of the Chairman of the Committee Sven Sester, their studies help increase Estonia’s competitiveness.
Sester thinks that the Foresight Centre has started its work successfully. “The Centre continues carrying out its action plan – studying of public (e-)governance, rules of the game of work in the future, and development of productivity,” Sester said.
Chairman of the Economic Affairs Committee stated that the results of the analyses of the Foresight Centre helped the legislative and executive power with collecting the necessary information. “Labour market, productivity and (e-)governance are the relevant keywords today,” Sester said. “The studies that are conducted and the implementation of their results later help increase Estonia’s competitiveness among other countries.”
Head of the Foresight Centre Tea Danilov believes that the research projects have proven their relevance. She said that the Centre planned to present the results during this year.
Danilov also drew attention to the importance of international cooperation related to the projects. “More than 50 researchers and experts from Estonia and abroad have been involved in conducting the studies and analyses,” she said. “We can also study the practices of various countries together with international think tanks in order to get information and be in touch with the latest global trends.”
The Action Plan of the Foresight Centre for 2017–2018 provides for conducting of three monitoring projects. The public (e-)governance study project analyses the e-solution of the government and the public sector reforms. The project analysing the rules of the game of work relationships in the future studies the developments of population with the changing of work relations and work formats. The study project focusing on the development prospects of productivity combines the existing studies and information on productivity.
The Foresight Centre started its activities at the Riigikogu last year. It provides the Riigikogu and other agencies with regular information on global trends and the analyses conducted by the think tanks of the world.
