The Foresight Centre notes in its new short report, “Does Platform Work Support Careers?” that a fifth of people providing ride-hailing or courier services via platforms are at a dead end of their careers, working full-time in a field for which they consider themselves overqualified.

It is likely that in the event of a dispute, the employment status of platform couriers and platform taxi drivers would be classified as an employment relationship in Estonia, according to a legal analysis commissioned by the Foresight Centre. In Europe, most court disputes have resulted in platform workers being classified as employees, and the platforms have changed their work organisation after that.

The increasing NATO defence spending means there is an opportunity for Estonia to strongly develop its local defence industry. Its volume could grow to up to 6% of GDP in the next ten years. However, the growth of the local defence industry depends on Estonia’s ability to resolve its labour, regulatory and capital issues, according to the Foresight Centre’s new short report.
